GACKT INFORMATION!
Gackt's full name is Kamui Gakuto (or Camui Gackt for english fans). He is a famed Japanese musician, composer, and lyricist. He is also a famed poet, actor, author, designer, and model! He is usually referred to by his stage name "GACKT". He is known for his career as a solo artist and as the former lead singer of the now broke up band "Malice Mizer". He has performed in many languages such as Japanese, English, Mandarin, and Cantonese! Yes, he took the time to learn them! Plus speak them all surprisingly well! There are also a bunch of DEARS (a Gackt fan like me ^_^) going around saying he speaks French. Which may be very true seeing that one of his commercials he stared in was indeed in French!
Gackt's music has been used in many anime series, video games, and television dramas! These include titles such as Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII, Kamen Rider (the Japanese original power rangers ^_^;), and Bujingai! Plus many more! He co-wrote AND co-stared in the 2003 film "Moon Child". He also acted in the NHK drama "Fuurin Kazan" as Uesugi Kenshin!He has also voice acted and did motion capturing for many anime!
Born on July 4, 1973 in Okinawa, Japan. Gackt once stated that he was born in 1540 in an interview. He then said that he feels he wasn't born at the right time and should have been in the time of the samurai!His father was a music Teacher, primarily playing the trumpet and his mom was a teacher too!According to Gackt he was a mischievous child who loved to take risks. At the age of 7 he nearly drowned while swimming off the coast of Okinawa, after this near-death experience he claimed to be able to see and talk to his deceased family members, a notion which was dismissed by his parents! At the age of 10 he was hospitalized with a gastrointestinal condition and had to stay for a prolonged time. During his stay he made friends with many terminally ill children. Many of which died during his stay. T.T
Gackt's musical education began at age 3 when his parents started him in his classical piano education, that he grew tired of 4 years later. It took another 4 years before his parents allowed him to quit! Gackt is very well known for being EXTREMELY competitive, so when he learned his friend was taking piano he again joined classes so he could be better! Having only listened to classical and enca while growing up, Gackt didn't get interested in Rock music until he was a young adult. He cites "Led Zeplin's ' Stairway to Heaven'" as being particularly inspiring! Yes that's right an American Rock Band!He then went on to master modern percussion and guitar.
HIS CAREER IN MALICE MIZER!
In 1995 Gackt joined the group "Malice Mizer" as the vocalist, lyricist, and pianist! The band released several successful singles along with two albums with Gackt. The albums were titled: Voyage ~Sans Retour~ and Merveilles. At the start of 1999 Gackt left Malice Mizer, only 5 months later Kami died of a subarachnoid Hemorrhage. Gackt dedicated two songs titled "U+K" and "Emu ~for my dear~" To his memory. T.T
HIS SOLO CAREER!
Gackt launched his solo career on May 12, 1999 with the release of EP "Mizerable" (on the front page remember!?). Several albums, singles, and videos have been released since then. In 2003 he published his autobiography "Jihaku" and designed two guitars named "Mercury" and "Venus"! On June 20th, 2007 He released his single "Returner ~Yami no Shuuen~" Where he dressed as a Samurai and dies in war while singing about the love he promised to return to. Sorry that whole love thing kinda made me emotional ^_^'. "Returner ~Yami no Shuuen~" was also the first of his songs (in a solo career or band) that hit the top in Japan's Oricon Charts! In October 2007 his back catalog became available in the I-tunes store! On December 19, 2008 Gackt released an album titled "0079-0088" It contained 8 tracks that were all either previously used on the soundtracks of "Mobil Suit Zeta Gundam" movies or were covers from the earlier songs in the Gundam Franchise! It was created for the creator of Gundam, Yoshiyuki Tomino, for his birthday!Yes that is right Gackt is a Gundam fan! (Not related but look inside Linkin Parks : Numb and there are Gundams all over that vid look and see!)
Gackt Performed on the 58th Koohaku Uta Gassen, The 2008 new years special by NHK! Gackts single "Jesus" was released on November 26, 2008; It was his first single in over a year!Later on January 28, 2009 Gackt released his single "Ghost" his 27th single! Which was the opening for the Japanese version of "The Sarah Conner Chronicles" ! Yes that's right the opening to the Japanese Terminators XD. Sorry I get a kick out of that.On June 20, 2009 Gackt released his single "Koakuma Heaven" which was the first of 4 singles released by Gackt dor his "10 year anniversary countdown!" that marked his 10th anniversary as a solo artist! Each of the 10 singles were released withing a week of each other, the second one was titled "Faraway" followed by his third "Lost Angels" then followed by "Flower"!
GACKT'S PERFORMANCE IN SKIN!
On May 25, 2007, The formation of the super group SKIN was announced. Which, besides Gackt, consists of fellow Rock/Pop artist Miyavi,Sugizo(Yes the former Luna Sea guitarist), and Yoshiki the co-founder of X Japan! X Japan Rules....Sorry had to add it ^_^;. The group gave it's debut performance at Anime Expo in Long Beach, California in June 29, 2007! >.< I wish I was there!
GACKT IN VOCALOID!
Gackt lent his voice to the creation of Vocaloids Kamui Gakupo! Yes he is in Vocaloid! To all Vocaloid fans and Gackt fans who were wondering Kamui Gakupo's name isn't coincidence it IS Kamui Gackuto! A recent release OPUS Express, for mixing part of vocals accompanied by phoneme data!In addition Gackpoid will include 2 of Gackts songs and three example songs! Get this, they still needed a character design to match the other Vocaloid people (Such a Miku Hatsune! :D). They soon recruited Kentaro Miura, Famed for his manga BERSERK!(Yeah you know the violent kinda perverted dark Epic! That even I love so much! >.<) Gackt was happy with this because he is a MAJOR fan of BERSERK! He requested a copy of the design be faxed not only to the developers but also to him XD!Get this awesome design that came out of it. The design for Gakupo is a samurai in a Hakama and Haori with a katana, that somehow acts as a musical instrument!
